Sam Cassell is leaving the Philadelphia 76ers coaching staff, will join Joe Mazzulla in Boston

After the Philadelphia 76ers fired Doc Rivers and brought in Nick Nurse, the team will now lose their head assistant coach in Sam Cassell.
Sam Cassell Leaving Philadelphia to Join Boston Celtics
Cassell is now heading to the Boston Celtics to join Joe Mazzulla’s coaching staff. He spent the last eight seasons on Doc Rivers coaching staffs with the Los Angeles Clippers and Philadelphia 76ers.
After Rivers got fired from the 76ers (and still doesn’t have a job), Cassell is moving on to the Celtics.
The Celtics are currently dealing with a ‘mass exodus’ of assistant coaches. Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reported last Wednesday that Celtics assistant coaches Ben Sullivan, Aaron Miles, and Mike Moser are expected to leave the team and join ex-Boston coach Ime Udoka in Houston.
You would think that Cassell believes his chances on landing a head coaching gig increase by joining the Celtics coaching staff. Mazzulla had a shaky playoff debut in year one, but the Celtics agreed to give him another shot in 2023-24.
How confident they are in Mazzulla moving forward will almost certainly depend on what Boston is able to do next season.
