Tyrese Maxey discusses the Sixers’ hiring of Nick Nurse, reveals summer goals

In a recent interview, Philadelphia 76ers’ young star Tyrese Maxey shed light on the team’s decision to bring in Nick Nurse and his personal goals for the summer.
Maxey, known for his electric playing style and work ethic, expressed his excitement about the Sixer’s acquisition of Nurse.
Maxey described Nurse, who guided the Toronto Raptors to an NBA championship in 2019, as a highly respected figure in the league, lauding his ability to adapt to different situations and maximize player potential. The young guard expressed his eagerness to learn from Nurse’s wealth of experience, citing the coach’s track record of developing players and implementing innovative strategies.
Maxey’s impression of new Sixers head coach Nick Nurse
My first impressions on him was like, just he’s a good dude. Great person. Great guy before I even get to them, shout to Doc. Shoutout to Sam (Cassell). Shoutout to all those guys man. I appreciated them. They were great in that three years. They were the only coaches that I know that’s going to be different, but I appreciate them. I wish them the best of luck. They came in every single day, worked their tail off to try to get us to where we want to be.
It’s just unfortunate it didn’t workout and decide to go a different direction. We brought in coach Nurse, and like I said, I got to talk to him a few times. Right after he got hired and right after his press conference. It sounds like he’s got a plan. It’s hard to do X’s and O’s right now. It’s June. I mean like it’s almost impossible. You don’t know what your roster will look like. You don’t know anything. You just don’t know.
It’s the offseason, but it seemed like he has an idea. He has a plan. has a vision, and I think he’s gonna push us and try to get the best out of whoever’s on the team. Whoever’s on the team. It doesn’t matter. He has this type of personality. This type of creative mind that I think is different. It’d be a breath of fresh air for our team. — via Maxey on the Mic

Looking ahead to the offseason, Maxey revealed his determination to improve various aspects of his game. He recognizes the importance of honing his shooting skills and plans to improve his jump shot mechanics and consistency. Maxey aims to become a more reliable outside threat, greatly enhancing his offensive prowess — although that almost seems unfair, as he shot 43.4% from beyond the arc last season with the Sixers.
Additionally, he intends to enhance his decision-making and playmaking abilities, emphasizing the importance of developing a well-rounded skill set to contribute more effectively to the team.
Tyrese Maxey’s reflections on the Sixers’ hiring of Nick Nurse and his personal summer goals provide a glimpse into the mindset of a dedicated young player aiming to make significant strides in his career. As he embraces leadership and continues to refine his skills, fans can expect Maxey to play an increasingly pivotal role in the Philadelphia 76ers’ future.
