Georges Niang thanks the city of Philadelphia, Sixers fans in Instagram post after signing new contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers

Georges Niang signed a three-year, $26 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the start of NBA Free Agency, and recently took to Instagram to thank Philadelphia 76ers’ for their support over the past two seasons.
Georges Niang Message to Philadelphia, Sixers Fans on Instagram
“PHILLY. You welcomed me. You embraced me. You helped make me. You treated me like your own. I’ll never forget the love. One last time with Mad Philly Love. BANG BANG NIANG FOREVER. THANK YOU.”
Off the bench last season, he averaged 8.2 points and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 40.1% from beyond the arc. Across two seasons with the Sixers, Niang shot 40.2% from three point range, averaging 8.7 points per game.
Niang always seemed like a nice guy during his time in Philadelphia but I think we can all agree it was in the Sixers best interest to not re-sign him given his lack of defensive capabilities come playoff time.
The Sixers have a ton of work to do with their bench unit this summer, with Shake Milton, Jalen McDaniels, and Niang all finding new contracts elsewhere in free agency. Dewayne Dedmon and Montrezl Harrell won’t be back either.
Leaving Philadelphia:
- Shake Milton Georges Niang Jalen McDaniels Dewayne Deadmon Montrezl HarrellÂ
Also, who knows what will happen with James Harden, who opted-in to his player option with the Sixers and was expecting to be traded. Now, reports are saying that the Sixers “haven’t ruled out” Harden returning next season.
What a mess. Cheers to Niang though. Good luck in Cleveland.
