Budda Baker working out with Eagles CB Kelee Ringo amid contract dispute

What’s one remaining move Philadelphia could make this offseason to solidify their roster?

Most Eagles fans would respond with a trade for Cardinals safety Budda Baker.

Baker, 27, formally requested a trade from Arizona in April amid his desire for a new contract. Baker is owed $13.1M this season and $14.2M in 2024 from a four-year, $59M extension he signed in 2020.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon recently stated that Baker was “working through some things” — later clarifying the “some things” as business/contract-related. With no headway on a new deal being made, the trade speculation continues.

Enter the Philadelphia Eagles, who have continuously been linked to the All-Pro throughout the summer.

“People I’ve talked to around the league are at least looking to Philadelphia because they have a need at safety with C.J. Gardner-Johnson leaving in free agency. But my understanding is they don’t have a lot of money to spend because they signed other players, so it could be tough.” — ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler

Baker has left breadcrumbs regarding Philly as a potential trade destination, from media interviews to Twitter interactions to a recent workout with Eagles CB Kelee Ringo.

Could this just be two friends working out in preparation for training camp? Possibly. But remember, the AJ Brown trade rumors started with a meaningless workout, and GM Howie Roseman is always looking to improve the roster. Baker is certainly on his radar, especially with the resume he’s compiled since 2017:

  • 650 total tackles (four seasons with 100+)
  • 34 passes defended
  • 7 INTs
  • 6 forced fumbles
  • 5 fumble recoveries (1 TD)
  • 7.5 sacks

Ringo has yet to ink his rookie contract with the Eagles, being one of just two fourth-round selections from the 2023 draft left unsigned.
