Takeaways from the Daryl Morey interview on today’s Anthony Gargano Show

Daryl Morey joined The Anthony Gargano Show today on 97.5 The Fanatic and discussed a variety of topics on the Philadelphia 76ers, including the current roster construction and the on-going situation with James Harden.
Honestly, the interview really didn’t have anything “new” or groundbreaking. Pretty expected and standard stuff.
Daryl Morey on the James Harden Situation
Morey stated that Harden still wants to play elsewhere and that he and the Sixers organization are attempting to honor that request. However, Morey is NOT willing to part ways with James Harden unless they can replace him with a good enough player.
“If we do look at a trade, it will be for one of two things. Either a player who helps us be right there like we were last year — up 3-2 on one of the best teams in the East, the Celtics. Obviously, we didn’t get it done, but James is one of the reasons we were up 3-2,”
Morey also mentioned that he would be open to making a trade in which the Sixers received a heavy load of draft picks in return to give the Sixers a better chance at pairing Joel Embiid with another young, rising star player but at the end of the day, he’s not willing to just trade James Harden just because he wants out of Philadelphia.
“Or we are going to do it where we get enough draft picks so we can turn those into a player who can be a running mate with Joel (Embiid). If we don’t get either a very good player or something we can turn into a very good player, then we will just not do it.”
Still, with reports that Harden and Morey’s relationship has been “fractured”, he still hopes that James Harden would change his mind and welcome the idea of returning to Philadelphia next season without any issues.
This is pretty “on par” with Morey, who has a history of not shying away from awkward situations just to appease a player under contract. He was extremely patient with Ben Simmons and didn’t end up moving him until the trade deadline, which coincidentally, was in a package to land James Harden from the Brooklyn Nets.
It’s also not really any “new” developments in the case of Daryl Morey and James Harden, which was somewhat expected given the fact that it’s the middle of July and we’re still months away from the NBA season.
