Scott Kingery destroys go-ahead grand slam to lead IronPigs but still isn’t considered as a 40-man roster addition for the Phillies?

While the Philadelphia Phillies made very little noise yesterday ahead of the 6pm MLB Trade Deadline, Scott Kingery continues to make his case to be added to the 40-man roster.
For those of you who have given up on the return of “Jetpax SZN” at Citizens Bank Park, you may want to reconsider. On July 10th, I wrote an article here on The Liberty Line notifying our loyal readers that Scott Kingery was on FIRE in Lehigh Valley.
At the time, over his last 28 games, Kingery slashed .277/.353/.822 with 11 home runs, 30 RBI, and 18 stolen bases.
June Scorcher: .343/.349/.337 with a .652 OPS. 7 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 9 BB, 24 R
Through the first 7 games of July, Kingery batted .292 with a 1.083 OPS. He had seven hits in 24 at-bats, including three doubles, two triples, three homes runs, and 8 RBI.
Season: .267 BA, 12 HR, 38 RBI, 19 SB, 50 R, .793 OPS
Just last night, Kingery destroyed a go-ahead GRAND SLAM in Lehigh Valley to bring the Iron Pigs all the way back from a six run deficit against Buffalo.
Scott Kingery Go-Ahead GRAND SLAM
With Josh Harrison getting DFA’d following the Phillies trade for Michael Lorenzen, the Phillies will still have to make another roster move for Rodolfo Castro, the right-handed infielder that was sent to Philly in exchange for Bailey Falter yesterday.
How Castro will get a 40-man roster spot and ultimately a spot on the MLB roster over someone like Scott Kingery is beyond me. Just look at his numbers. To say the very least, they are not very good.
Side Note: Fine. We’ll take Castro, but someone needs to explain to me why the following players still have a 40-Man Roster spot for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Phillies 40-Man Roster (Minors)
Pitchers:
- Andrew Bellatti
- Connor Brogdon
- McKinley Moore
- Nick Nelson
- Luis F. Ortiz
- Erich Uelmen
Position Players:
- Drew Ellis
- Kody Clemens
- Darick Hall
- Simon Muzziotti
Phillies 40-Man Roster (Majors)
- Dylan Covey
Nick Nelson and Dylan Covey? Seriously?
We’re really hanging on to Darick Hall and Drew Ellis too eh?
These guys have proven already this season to be bad baseball players at the Major League Level and have zero shot of contributing anything to this ball club in the postseason.
Sorry. That’s just a fact. Argue with your couch.
Scott Kingery however, has shown promise in the past and really never got a real shake at the major league level after battling his fair share of injuries, a bad COVID spell, and a group of coaches who tried to turn him into a power hitter instead of what he was truly great at when the Phillies drafted him in 2018.
Kingery is under contract for the rest of this season and getting paid $8 million, with the next three years as Club Options with a $1 million buyout.
At the very least, Kingery needs to be a September call-up for the Phillies but when you look at the 40-man, there’s definitely dead weight to be cut and Jetpax SZN deserves one final ride in a Phillies uniform.
Make it happen Phillies. We need it. And please, for the dorky beat writers, can someone please ask why Kingery isn’t even mentioned? Do your job for once and get answers to the questions that Phillies fans want to know.
Then why don’t the Phillies call up Scott Kingery? If he is doing so well in the Minor Leagues, call him up and have him play in the big leagues! It’s time for the Major League Phillies to see Scott Kingery! What’s taking them so long to call him up?
