Preview: Michael Lorenzen set to make Phillies’ debut against the Fish, Turner dropped to 8th in the lineup as struggles continue

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to take 3 of 4 from the Miami Marlins at 12:10pm today with Michael Lorenzen on the mound making his post trade deadline debut.Â
Lorenzen, who was brought to Philly in exchange for infield prospect Hao Yu-Lee. Detroit’s All-Star selection (by default) posted a 5-7 record with a 3.58 ERA and a 7.07 K/9 across 105.2 innings with the Tigers this season.Â
In the month of July, Michael Lorenzen posted the second best ERA in the entire MLB
- Blake Snell 0.56 ERA
- Michael Lorenzen 1.14 ERA
- Aaron Civale 1.45 ERA
- Joe Musgrove 1.45 ERA
- Justin Verlander 1.69 ERA
Michael Lorenzen might be the long lost brother of Matt Strahm
Phillies Starting Lineup vs Miami Marlins
Trea Turner has been dropped to the 8th spot in the batting order for today’s series finale against the Miami Marlins. Turner is hitting .237 on the season with a .661 OPS, 10 home runs, 21 stolen bases, and 34 RBI across 106 games.
Last night, he basically lost the Phillies a very winnable game with a two-out, fielding error >>
Over his last 15 games, Turner has averaged just .161 at the plate while hitting zero home runs and tallying zero RBIs.Â
Point being, dropping Trea Turner from seventh to eighth in the lineup isn’t really news because he’s been awful at the plate regardless of where he’s hitting.Â
Something has to change and I’m out of options.
The only thing that could work at this point is dropping him from the lineup completely and sending him to Triple A Lehigh Valley so get back in rhythm against minor league pitching.Â

Of course, if that doesn’t go well, the Phillies are stuck with Turner, who just signed a 10-year $300 million contract playing poorly in Triple A.Â
I think that’s a risk I’m willing to take.
Turner is a negative in the field and at the plate already so it’s not like the Phillies will miss him for a few weeks and maybe a nice Triple A confidence boosting vacation would do him good.Â
As for today’s game, the Phillies taking 3 of 4 from the Fish would be great. Really, they should have swept the Pirates and be looking to sweep the Marlins today, but we can’t be crying over spilled milk.
Phillies Hunt for Red October
Milwaukee lost last night and dropped to 3-7 over their last 10 games. They are now tied with the Marlins for the third and final NL Wild Card spot with the Giants still in first and the Phillies in second by a half game.Â

Outside looking in, you have the D-Backs, who also lost and are 3-7 over their last 10 games and the Cubs, who are 8-2 over their last 10 and winners of two straight.Â
