Dave Dombrowski announces that Bryce Harper will be the Phillies’ first baseman moving forward
Dave Dombrowski announced today that he spoke with Bryce Harper and came to the decision that he will be the Philadelphia Phillies first baseman of the future.
Dave Dombrowski on Bryce Harper playing first base
He’s happy to do whatever we wanted him to do,” Dombrowski said, according to Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. “He said he’d play first or the outfield. He feels great. But the more we talked about it internally, we liked the idea of playing him at first.”
That of course, is bad news for now free agent Rhys Hoskins who is now almost certainly heading elsewhere this winter. Tough pill to swallow, but given the current roster of the Philadelphia Phillies, it makes the most sense to part ways with Hoskins.
The Phillies want to keep Kyle Schwarber in the designated hitter role, opening up the outfield for Brandon Marsh, Johan Rojas, Nick Castellanos, and whoever else the organization may add leading up to Spring Training in 2024. Now, Rhys Hoskins is the odd man out.
Cheers to you, Rhys Hoskins. We’ll miss you.
