Eagles Roundup: Shaquille Leonard updates, Week 13 playoff-clinching scenarios, injury news

Following their 37-34 overtime victory over Buffalo, the Eagles sit atop the NFL at 10-1.

We’ve rounded up the latest news and rumors ahead of the highly-anticipated matchup vs. San Francisco.

Shaq Leonard concludes visit with Dallas, will meet with Eagles this week

The Cowboys and Eagles remain in a bidding war for the services of former Colts All-Pro LB Shaq Leonard. Per multiple reports, Leonard had a successful visit with Dallas on Tuesday and is scheduled to meet with Philadelphia at NovaCare this week.

With LB Zach Cunningham suffering a hamstring injury in Sunday’s win vs. Buffalo, the Eagles could use another linebacker for their impending playoff run. In 70 games with Indianapolis, Leonard tallied 32 tackles for loss, 31 passes defended, 20 QB hits, 12 INTs, and 17 forced fumbles.

Additionally, the Eagles waived DB Josiah Scott to free up a roster spot.

Lane Johnson expected to play vs. 49ers, Dallas Goedert pushing to play

After missing last week’s game with a groin injury, RT Lane Johnson is expected to play Sunday vs. the 49ers.

“Just kind of popped some scar tissue from last year,” Johnson said via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “So it flamed up. But I’ll be ready to rock.”

San Francisco boasts two prolific pass-rushers in Nick Bosa and Chase Young, who’ve combined for 9.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss as teammates this season. The return of Johnson will be a welcome sight.

TE Dallas Goedert is reportedly pushing to play this week following forearm surgery. Goedert suffered a fractured forearm in the Eagles’ Week 9 win over Dallas and was initially thought to be placed on injured reserve. The Eagles opted not to place Goedert on IR, giving him a chance to return earlier than expected.

Goedert’s first opportunity to practice will come on Thursday afternoon.

Eagles can become first team to clinch playoff berth

We have our first playoff-clinching scenario of 2023. The Eagles can secure their spot this weekend with a win and some help.

Brian Johnson expected to be hot HC candidate this offseason

Amid the firing of Panthers’ head coach Frank Reich, Eagles OC Brian Johnson has emerged as a top candidate for any HC vacancies this offseason.

Johnson garnered league-wide interest last spring for available OC jobs, but Philadelphia promoted him from within to replace Shane Steichen.

In Johnson’s first season as play-caller, the Eagles are ranked third in scoring (28.2 PPG), ninth in total offense (364.3 YPG), and fifth in red-zone scoring percentage (65.8%).
