27 and Counting: Detroit Pistons pass Philadelphia 76ers for longest single-season losing streak, two more losses needed to erase The Process Era from NBA record books
Ladies and gentlemen, the Detroit Pistons have successfully erased the Philadelphia 76ers from one of the darkest records in all of sports. After losing to the Brooklyn Nets, the Pistons have now lost 27 straight games, which is now the longest single-season losing streak in NBA history.
Cade Cunningham scored 41 points on 15-of-21 shooting from the floor but that wasn’t enough for the Pistons as they lost 118-112 to the Brooklyn Nets.
The Detroit Pistons have now passed the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers and 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers for the longest single-season losing streak in the history of the NBA at 27 games.
On top of holding the record for consecutive losses in a single NBA season, the Pistons now have the second-longest losing streak in NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB history.
Unfortunately, there’s still work to be done in erasing the Philadelphia 76ers “Process” era from history books for good. The Sixers still remain at the top of losing streak history after losing 28 straight games in 2015 over multiple seasons.
Longest losing streaks in NBA History
- 28 Consecutive Losses (March 27, 2015 – December 1, 2015):Â Philadelphia 76ers
- 27 Consecutive Losses (October 30, 2023 – Present):Â Detroit Pistons
- 26 Consecutive Losses (December 20, 2010 – February 11, 2011): Cleveland Cavaliers
- 26 Consecutive Losses (January 31, 2014 – March 29, 2014): Philadelphia 76ers
- 24 Consecutive Losses (March 19, 1982 – November 10, 1982): Cleveland Cavaliers
Detroit Pistons Upcoming Schedule
- December 28th: Detroit Pistons at Boston Celtics (Scheduled Loss)
- December 30th: Toronto Raptors at Detroit Pistons
The Pistons still need to lose their next two games. I would consider the next game a “scheduled loss” on the road against the Boston Celtics so really, it will all come down to the Toronto Raptors playing on the road in Detroit on December 30th.
The Toronto Raptors are just 11-18 on the season and have posted a miserable 3-9 record on the road with their most recent loss away from home happening last Friday in South Philadelphia to none other than the Philadelphia 76ers.Â
The Detroit Pistons can break The Process Era curse on the Philadelphia 76ers
After the 76ers managed to break the Cavaliers record for the longest losing streak in NBA history, a dark cloud was lifted over the city of Cleveland.
In the same exact season, LeBron James and the Cavs defeated the Golden State Warriors 4-3 in the NBA Finals in 2016 to win their first NBA Title in franchise history, breaking the “Cleveland Sports Curse” and finally, restoring faith in sports fans that have a long history of being plagued by professional sports misery.
It also marked the first time in NBA history that a team managed to comeback from a 3-1 deficit to win the NBA Finals.
Point being, if the Philadelphia 76ers want to lift the basketball curse that has plagued this franchise since the 1980’s, they desperately need the Detroit Pistons to rid them of the longest losing streak in NBA history.
Records are meant to be broken. The Detroit Pistons can save the 76ers by re-writing NBA history and losing 29 straight games this season and finally rid the city of Philadelphia of the dark clouds and curse that has haunted this basketball franchise since the years of “The Process”.
Years of “The Process” followed by playoff disappointment and freak-injuries to star players, the 76ers need this to happen if they want to escape eternal hell by finally bringing an NBA Finals trophy back to the city of Philadelphia for the first time since 1983.
