Former Phillies’ reliever signs 1-year deal with the Chicago Cubs
Former Philadelphia Phillies reliever Hector Neris is in agreement with the Chicago Cubs on a 1-year, $9 million contract.
Neris spent the first eight years of his big league career in Philly before joining the Houston Astros. Last year, Neris posted career numbers in Houston, finishing the season with a 1.71 ERA in 68.1 innings.Â

Side Note: Neris also pitched against the Phillies in the 2022 World Series (pain), tossing a total of two innings while allowing zero runs.
The Chicago Cubs have been active this offseason, adding Shota Imanaga and Neris to their bullpen. They still have to figure out what they’re doing with Cody Bellinger, who’s still listed as one of the best free agent players available just weeks until Spring Training.Â
Phillies remain quiet weeks before Spring Training
As for the Phillies, we’re still waiting to see what Dave Dombrowski and the front office will do this winter. As of now, it looks like the organization is content with running it back, but there’s still a need for a few more arms in the bullpen and a right handed bat in the outfield. We’ll see how things shake out over the next few weeks when the team will head to Clearwater, Florida for Spring Training.
