Eagles replace former QB coach with a much more experienced one in Doug Nussmeier

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly hiring Doug Nussmeier to become their new quarterbacks coach.

This coaching hire could be viewed as the most underrated one this offseason due to it being over shadowed by both the offensive and defensive coordinator hirings.

Without running down all the issues with the Eagles this past season, it was quite clear the coaching staff severely lacked experience at the pro level. Not to disrespect the former QB coach Alex Tanney, but it being his first year at that spot in the NFL is a clear indicator as to why there was some sort of disconnect between players and coaches.

Music to Eagles fan’s ears

Similar to the new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Nussmeier played quarterback in college and the NFL. He’s no stranger to the positions. He has more than 20 seasons of coaching QBs under his belt. His experience ranges from being QB coach and or the OC for the Cowboys, Chargers, Alabama, Michigan, and Florida, and most notably, he’s worked closely with Kellen Moore in the NFL.

In both Los Angeles and Dallas Moore and Nussmeier held the same roles as offensive coordinator and quarterback’s coach. So, there’s definitely something to be said about both the experience and continuity of having these two with the same roles on the Eagles.

At the end of the day, the hope here is that this entire new staff on the offensive side of the ball can get Jalen Hurts playing like he did in 2022 and build off of that.

You certainly can’t argue they are taking the right steps to make sure their franchise quarterback has what he needs moving forward. Honestly, we can talk about scheme, personnel, and all that stuff, but Jalen Hurts has been and will always be the most important aspect of the team. It all starts and ends with him.

  1. All I know is it better work out and for the better a big jump in what happened with our downfall at the end of the Season. Still think Sirianni should have been let go. Got Spags to come and Coach for us..
