Flyers Trade Deadline

Flyers trade Wade Allison and acquire Erik Johnson as Trade Deadline winds down

Unless something happens at the buzzer, the Philadelphia Flyers and General Manager Danny Briere are likely done for the 2024 trade deadline, completing four trades – two of which happened in the past hour.

Predators acquire forward Wade Allison

Flyers receive: RW Denis Gurianov

Predators receive: RW Wade Allison

Wade Allison was supposed to pan out as a solid middle-six winger, but his playing time was cut short during the 22-23 season, and has found himself stuck in the AHL ever since.

A fresh start could do wonders for the 26-year-old, which the Predators are banking on.

In return, the Flyers receive 26-year-old Russian Denis Gurianov.

The winger had shown signs of promise from 2019-2021 putting together 32 goals and 27 assists for 59 points in 119 games (nearly a 0.5 points per game pace), but has struggled to find his footing ever since.

Flyers acquire veteran defenseman Erik Johnson

Flyers receive: Erik Johnson

Sabres receive: 2024 4th-round pick

With Sean Walker off to Colorado, and Nick Seeler, Rasmus Ristolainen, and Jamie Drysdale on injured reserve, the Flyers were in need of a defenseman, and Danny Briere chose to go the way of a veteran presence rather than paying a relatively high price for the likes of Jakob Chychrun.

The price seems very high for Johnson, who has struggled the past two seasons. Hopefully, he can turn his game around after two pretty rough seasons.
