76ers to hold meeting/workout with former Charlotte Hornets Center Kai Jones
The Philadelphia 76ers are planning to have a meeting/workout with former Charlotte Hornets big man Kai Jones, who has been working on himself on and off the court since being waived by Charlotte in October, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.Â
Kai Jones was selected by the Hornets out of the University of Texas with the 19th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. In two seasons with the Hornets, Jones played in a combined 67 on average of 9.1 minutes a night where tallied 2.7 points per game and 2.0 rebounds per game on 56.7% shooting from the field on two shot attempts per game.
Jones spent a great portion of his two-year career with the Greensboro Swarm, the Hornets’ G-League affiliate. Jones averaged 15.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds per game on 75.0% field shooting with 8.9 nightly shot attempts in 14 games with Greensboro last season.
Kai Jones dunked over Victor Wembenyama and was never the same
Jones hasn’t been with any other NBA team since and with two roster spots left, the 76ers could sign him for the rest of the season. With Joel Embiid sidelined due to his meniscus injury, the 76ers have struggled with front-court depth and Jones could help lessen the void with his 6’11 frame and lob threat/shot-blocking play-style.
