Eagles complete the Giants Troll Trifecta with Saquon Barkley signing

Now that the Eagles have officially signed former Giants running back Saquon Barkley, they’ve finally solidified their Troll Trifecta of the New York Giants. Allow me to explain.

The first troll job came in the final week of the 2020 regular season, when the Doug Pederson led Eagles decided to inexplicably bench their starters, essentially handing Washington the win. In doing so, Philadelphia gave Washington the division title and consequently knocked the Giants out of the playoffs.

For days, Giants fans and players (including Saquon Barkley ironically) cried about what the Eagles did and that they should be punished for it. Whether the Eagles should’ve been punished for it or not is neither here nor there. The 6-10 Giants winning the NFC East and hosting a playoff game would’ve been punishment enough, honestly.

A few months later in the 2021 NFL Draft, Philadelphia pulled off their second troll of New York, trading up in the first-round to snag WR DeVonta Smith – a player the Giants clearly wanted. They ended up trading back and getting Kadarius Toney (lol).

I’ll never forget this gem from that night.

Finally, to top off the trifecta, the Eagles swooped in to sign the beloved Saquon Barkley during the first day of free agency. Giants fans weren’t happy about it. Tiki Barber, in particular, was very unhappy, telling Saquon that he’s officially dead to Giants nation.

If nothing else, the Eagles can always hang their hats on one-upping the Giants. Is it the most luxurious award in the world? Hell no. But does it give me happiness every single time it happens? Absolutely. And at the end of the day, our happiness is all we have.

So thank you, Howie Roseman and the Eagles, for constantly being better than the Giants. After the dreadful end to the 2023 season, this got me back on my feet and ready for football again.
