Joel Embiid to travel with Philadelphia 76ers for upcoming road trip

Joel Embiid will be traveling with the Philadelphia 76ers this weekend for the first time since he went down with a meniscus injury.

According to Nick Nurse, Embiid will continue his workouts on the road while the 76ers travel to Cleveland Friday night to take on the Cavaliers and then head up to Toronto to face the Raptors on Sunday night via Noah Levick of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

To excite Philadelphia fans even more, the 76ers took to social media to post a humorous cryptic GIF of Joel Embiid and later posted a picture of him in action during today’s practice.

When Will Joel Embiid Return?

Joel Embiid has already been ruled out for Friday’s game against the Cavaliers, but there’s no word yet on him potentially making his long-awaited return on Sunday against the Raptors.

However, multiple reports have indicated that Embiid will likely return in at some point in April with ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski being the latest to confirm this on last night’s edition of NBA Countdown:

“It is not a question of if, but when [Joel Embiid returns during the regular season] and the belief is with 9 regular season games left after tonight against the Clippers, that Joel Embiid can be back for a handful of those before the playoffs…”

Outside of the Grizzlies and Spurs on April 6th and 7th, there is at least a night off between games from now until the start of the NBA Play-In Tournament. It would make the most sense for Embiid to return on April 9th against the Detroit Pistons as that is one of Philadelphia’s final three regular season games, all of which are at Wells Fargo Center.

The 76ers have struggled without Joel Embiid and have fallen the whole way back to the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference standings at 39-34. They are a half-game behind the seventh seeded Miami Heat and 1.5 games behind the sixth seeded Indiana Pacers.
