Joel Embiid expected to return to Sixers lineup as early as tomorrow against the Oklahoma City Thunder

Last week, it was announced that Joel Embiid will be traveling with the Philadelphia 76ers on their two game road trip this weekend. 

Embiid didn’t play on Friday and The Sixers lost to the Cavaliers 117-114 on Friday night. Yesterday, the Sixers destroyed the Toronto Raptors without Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid playing.

The next game on the schedule is tomorrow night at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

After watching this workout video from Toronto where Embiid was practicing at full speed with the Sixers, you knew a return to the lineup was incoming.

Even after dealing with PTSD thanks to Ben Simmons and what he put Sixers fans through for YEARS in Philadelphia, watching Embiid look healthy and playing basketball again has me ready to run through a brick wall.

Honestly, I forgot what it felt like to actually enjoy Philadelphia 76ers basketball and trust me, I know it’s nothing short of a mental illness to have faith in Sixers basketball these days but at least we have a fighting chance with the reigning MVP back in the lineup.

This morning, we received news that Embiid’s recovery from a lateral meniscus tear and surgery on February 6th is near completion.

Joel Embiid averaged 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists over 34 games this season. 

There are seven games left in the 2024 NBA regular season. Next up is the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night in South Philadelphia. From there, the Sixers will hit the road for three straight games against the Heat, Grizzlies, and Spurs before returning home to face the Pistons, Magic, and Nets to close out the regular season. 

The Sixers are stuck in the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, 1.5 games behind the Miami Heat in seventh and 2 games behind the sixth seeded Indiana Pacers. 

Will be hard to overcome such a deficit to avoid the play-in tournament, but if Embiid returns and the Sixers rattle off seven or eight straight wins to close out the season, I guess there’s always a chance.
