Bryce Harper snaps ‘slump’ with 3 home runs, Turnbull and Pinto impress in Phillies 9-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds
Bryce Harper started 2024 a miserable 0-for-11 at the plate, which had baseball casuals questioning his abilities just four games into the regular season.
That changed in the first inning of last night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Harper sent Graham Ashcraft’s 1-2 sinker 420 feet to left field at 107.7 mph, giving the Phillies an early lead – marking his first hit of the 2024 MLB season.
Bryce Harper Home Run No. 1
When Harper stepped up to the plate in the fourth inning, he hit a first pitch slider 103.3 mph into the third row seats out in right field, giving the Phillies a 2-1 lead over the Reds while making the 1,000th run scored in his career.
Bryce Harper Home Run No. 2
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Harper tagged the baseball on a line drive to center-right field but Will Benson laid out to make a ridiculous catch, robbing him of another hit and RBI.
In the seventh inning, the Phillies loaded the bases for Harper, who entered the batters box hitless in four career at-bats against Reds pitcher Brent Suter. He then crushed a 3-2 sinker for a grand slam to right centerfield, busting the game wide open for The Fighting, who jumped out to an 8-1 lead over Cincinnati.
Bryce Harper Grand Slam
Harper is the first Phillies player to hit three home runs in a game since Bamboo Brad Miller at Wrigley Field on July 8, 2021. He’s the first Phillies player to hit three home runs in a game, with a grand slam, since Jayson Werth on May 16, 2008 at Citizens Bank Park. [MLB]
