Bryce Harper’s new double celebration vs Nationals: The meaning behind it and why I have never felt so old in my life
Last night, the Philadelphia Phillies started a six game road trip, beating the Washington Nationals 4-0 in DC.
Bryce Harper, who finished the game 3-5 with two doubles and an RBI broke out a “new” double celebration in the top of the third inning.
Bryce Harper Double Celebration
Comments flooded the replies of anyone who posted the video of the Bryce Harper celly on social media. Baseball purists like myself and AH Pod were genuinely confused.
“What’s up brother! ☝️🤓”
“Thank you brother ☝️🤓”
“Tuesday Tuesday ☝️🤓”
“That’s a win brother! ☝️🤓”
“Special Teams. Special Plays, Special Players ☝️🤓“
The meaning behind it? I literally had no idea until I did some in-depth investigative journalism to find the truth and what I uncovered just made me feel out of touch and way too old to be looking at Gen Z TikTok and social media accounts.
Harper, a man of the people was referencing TikTok content creator that goes by the name of Sketch and a celly that he does in his videos.
Looking at Sketch’s Twitter account, it looks like athletes from all over professional sports have been doing the same, with team accounts posting a ton of similar celebrations.
All of the sudden, there was Sketch Cellys EVERYWHERE
Apparently Sketch’s internet fame is somewhat new. In a recent post on Twitter he shared the following message. After watching a ton of videos, I do actually like this kid. He’s super funny and has a bunch of content posted across all social media platforms, primarily TikTok where he’s amassed 1.4 MILLION followers.
