On Thursday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell officially reinstated five players coming off one-year suspensions involving gambling. Eagles cornerback Isaiah Rodgers was reportedly not one of them.

The five players who were reinstated — Quintez Cephus, C.J. Moore, Demetrius Taylor, Rashod Berry, and Shaka Toney — all served their suspensions last season. The key difference between those players and Rodgers’ situation, the five that were reinstated were handed one-year suspensions, while Rodgers’ suspension was indefinite.

His indefinite suspension was most likely due to the fact that Rodgers admitted to placing bets on his own team. In September 2023, the NFL introduced a new policy that stated players who place a bet involving their own team will be suspended a minimum of two years.

Although Rodgers suspension was handed to him before this new policy was instituted, it could play a role in why Rodgers hasn’t been reinstated just yet. There’s still a chance he’s able to play in 2024, but even if he doesn’t get the green light, the Eagles have planned for his potential absence. They brought back Avonte Maddox and signed Tyler Hall. Not to mention they’ve shown a ton of interest in CB prospects leading up to the NFL Draft.

The NFL’s decision on Rodgers will come to light sometime within the next month or so I would imagine. Only time will tell.
