Wilson has rare size for a receiver, measuring at 6-6, 231 pounds and possessing an 84.5-inch wingspan. His length and athleticism made life difficult for outside corners, with his surprising short-area quickness catching defenders off-guard.
The problem with Wilson’s game is his inconsistent catching ability. Far too often he would drop routine catches, which is tough for a player who relies on 50/50 balls or back-shoulder throws.
Wilson’s frame and lack of explosiveness almost exclusively limit him to the outside, but his elite catch radius will make him a productive receiver at the pro level.
Over his two seasons at Florida State, Wilson recorded 84 receptions for 1,514 yards (18.0 YPC) and 10 TDs.
Johnny Wilson Scouting Report via Bleacher Report
Johnny Wilson is a skyscraper-sized wide receiver with surprising movement ability and impressive polish.
As a route-runner, Wilson has much more to him than his ball-winner frame suggests. He plays with surprisingly quick feet and smooth hips. Wilson is able to throttle down and burst out of his route breaks with relative ease for a player his size.
Wilson is a standard X receiver with one-of-a-kind size. His combination of length, relative mobility and advanced route-running ability could make him an immediate contributor. Wilson would fit best in an offense that emphasizes true dropback concepts and allows him to work the 8-to-20-yard range outside the numbers.
