Cold Takes Exposed: Knicks fans preemptively ‘called game’ last night on Twitter before Tyrese Maxey stole their souls in the final 25 seconds of Game 5
Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers were 28.2 seconds away from being eliminated from the NBA playoffs last night against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
Instead, Maxey drained a three-pointer just past the half court logo and send the game into overtime where he and Joel Embiid led the Sixers to a 112-106 victory, forcing a Game 6 on Thursday night in South Philly.
This series, even with the Sixers down 3-2 has been a back-and-forth battle
First, we had Kate Scott and Alaa Abdelnaby call Game 2 early for the Sixers in a game that they had an 89% chance of winning in the final minute.
With the Philadelphia 76ers leading by six points with just under 47 seconds left in the game, Alaa Abdelnaby told everyone “The goal is getting homecourt advantage by winning one of the two games on the road. Job done. Let’s head down to the turnpike.” Kate Scott then added that the postgame show would be “fun”

It was a miscue that was reminiscent of “The Confetti Game” against the Boston Celtics where the Wells Fargo Center preemptively dropped the confetti after Marco Belinelli hit a shot to tie the game, only for the Sixers to lose to in overtime to the Boston Celtics.

In Game 5 last night, the New York Knicks had a 95% chance of winning in the final minute and ended up losing thanks to Tyrese Maxey’s heroics – all while the internet was tweeting out the game was over and New York had won.

Statmuse tweeted the Knicks won the series:
Knicks fans thought Miles McBride hit a dagger lol
Not so fast…
New York led 96-90 with under a minute left but thankfully, when the 76ers needed him most, Tyrese Maxey went full sicko-mode, scoring seven points in the final 25 seconds of regulation.

Did anyone actually think that the Philadelphia 76ers and more specifically Tyrese Maxey were going to mount a comeback in the final minutes of a game while they were down 3-1 in the series with Joel Embiid playing with one leg and half of a face?
The responses were warranted, even more so when you come to realize that with a team down six points in the final 30 seconds of the 4th quarter in the NBA playoffs, they have posted a miserable 1-141 record.
The only win? The Philadelphia 76ers last night at Madison Square Garden.
