Welcome to the Show: Pittsburgh Pirates call up No. 1 overall pick in 2023 MLB Draft Paul Skenes, will start Saturday against the Cubs
The Pittsburgh Pirates made a big announcement today, calling up their No. 1 pitching prospect Paul Skenes. The 21-year old from LSU will make his Major League Baseball debut on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs.
Along with the announcement, the Pirates dropped a hype video for Skenes on Twitter.
Paul Skenes, Welcome to the Show
Skenes was the National Pitcher of the Year at LSU and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. He’s been dominating Triple A this season basically living in triple-digits on the radar gun. Pittsburgh fans can’t get enough of this guy. The lines to get an autograph run the whole way back into the concourse on a nightly basis.
Paul Skenes has been treated like a rockstar and all things considered, it looks like he will live up to the hype. I mean hell, it’s hard to even say getting the call to “The Show” ranks number one on his list of achievements at this point. It has to be at least tied with dating Olivia Dunne.

Skenes struck out eight while allowing one hit and two walks over 3 1/3 innings during his start Thursday. He’ll join a Pittsburgh Pirates rotation that already features Jared Jones, who got the call to The Show on March 30th and over his first five starts in the majors, he notched 39 strikeouts in 29 innings of work.
