Edmundo Sosa, Garrett Stubbs lead 9th inning comeback, Phillies beat the Rockies 8-4
The Philadelphia Phillies needed a bounce-back win last night in Colorado after losing the previous night in extra innings and they got one in comeback fashion after 9th inning heroics from Edmundo Sosa and Garrett Stubbs set the stage for Bryce Harper’s “nail in the coffin” three-run home run – his 13th of the year to secure an 8-4 win over the Rockies.
Aaron Nola was effective but did not have his best “stuff” by any means. The Phillies’ second ace labored through 6 innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned) and two walks while striking out five.Â
Honestly, I’m not sure there’s a player in all of Major League Baseball that’s hotter than Edmundo Sosa right now. Sosa went 1-for-4 in the game with a clutch, game-tying RBI triple in the ninth inning. In the absense of Trea Turner, Sosa has answered the Phillies’ prayers. The 28-year old is batting .333 with a 1.041 OPS in 69 at-bats. He has three home runs and 13 RBI.
Over the last 15 games, Sosa is hitting .364 with a .272 OPS with two of his three home runs and 10 of his 13 RBI coming in that span.
In the top of the ninth inning, trailing by one, Edmundo Sosa stepped up to the plate and hit a game-tying RBI triple. Sosa and Stubbs ignited a fire in the Phillies’ lineup and the result was a six-run 9th inning and a 3-run home run from none other than Bryce Harper.Â
