Kenny Pickett on being in Philadelphia: “I couldn’t ask for a better QB room”

Third-year QB Kenny Pickett had no desire to compete with Russell Wilson for the starting job in Pittsburgh, but he sounds pretty content backing up Jalen Hurts in Philly.

Pickett was initially open to participating in a QB battle before Wilson’s arrival. He seemingly changed his tone once Wilson was introduced, and Pickett’s “poor handling” of the situation led to the Steelers’ decision to trade him, per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The Eagles acquired Pickett for a 2024 third-round pick and two future seventh-rounders, while the Steelers subsequently traded for Justin Fields.

In a recent interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia, Pickett revealed his early thoughts on the Eagles and his new teammates.

“It’s been great,” Pickett said. “Obviously, Jalen’s an incredibly talented player. He’s played in a similar system, and we’re kinda all learning this new one together. So the communication back and forth in the quarterback room has been awesome with the quarterbacks coaching us and Kellen.

I couldn’t ask for a better room, better staff to be working with. Obviously, the talent around this team is pretty special, so it’s a great group to be in.”

Whatever character issues Pickett might have had in Pittsburgh don’t appear to be prominent in Philadelphia.

Pickett finished his Steelers career with a 14-10 record, throwing for 4,474 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
