‘Mare of Easttown’ sequel series to begin filming in Phoenixville this week

Phoenixville, PA is about to step into the spotlight as HBO’s highly anticipated sequel to “Mare of Easttown” begins filming in the area this week. The sequel, titled “Task,” will feature Mark Ruffalo as a Philadelphia-based FBI agent, continuing the trend of showcasing the Philadelphia suburbs that “Mare of Easttown” started.

Residents and visitors should be aware of the road closures that will accompany the filming. Route 29 in Phoenixville and Schuylkill Township will be closed from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, to 2 a.m. on Thursday, May 30. Specifically, Main Street in Phoenixville, between Anderson Avenue and Russell Road, will be affected.

The crew has been active in Mont Clare, with noticeable activity on 4th Street, Fegley Street, Landis Street, and Jacobs Street. Upper Providence police officers will be on hand to assist residents with parking and other queries.

About the new “Mare of Easttown” sequel

“Task” promises to build on the gripping drama and rich local character that made “Mare of Easttown” a hit. While much of the plot remains under wraps, reports describe Ruffalo’s character as a “damaged” agent, hinting at a complex and compelling storyline. There’s even speculation that he might cross paths with Kate Winslet’s iconic character, Mare, adding another layer of intrigue for fans.

Brad Ingelsby, the Berwyn native who created “Mare of Easttown,” will also helm “Task.” Filming has already taken place around Delaware County in locations like Chadds Ford, Edgemont Township, and Upper Chichester, with principal photography having begun in March.

“Mare of Easttown” not only brought national attention to the notorious Delco accent and local spots like Wawa but also garnered critical acclaim, winning four Primetime Emmy awards in 2021. The series highlighted the unique culture of the Philadelphia suburbs, a trend that “Task” is set to continue.

The filming of “Task” in Phoenixville is generating buzz and excitement, much like its predecessor. As the production takes over the town, it’s an excellent opportunity for locals to witness the filmmaking process and perhaps even catch a glimpse of Mark Ruffalo in action.

As a fan of the first season, I’m very excited to see what this sequel series brings. And of course, to hear all these actors try their best to do a Delco accent.
