Jose Rodriguez was on the Phillies 40-man roster and is now suspended for one year, meaning JETPAX SZN is officially back on the table
Along with Tucupita Marcano receiving a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball other players were sentenced to one year suspensions, including Philadelphia Phillies minor-league infielder Jose Rodriguez.
Each of the players listed below, including Jose Rodriguez have been banned one year for “unrelated violations of the league’s gambling policy”.
- Oakland Athletics reliever Michael Kelly
- Padres minor-league pitcher Jay Groome
- Philadelphia Phillies minor-league infielder José Rodríguez
- Arizona Diamondbacks minor-league pitcher Andrew Saalfrank
Phillies Prospect Jose Rodriguez Suspended One Year
Phillies’ Jose Rodriguez is 23 years old. He hit .265 with a .751 OPS – including four home runs, 18 RBI, 12 stolen bases, and 30 runs scored over 147 at-bats this season with the Reading Fightin’ Phils. His path to The Show will now be delayed at least one year.
With Jose Rodriguez being a member of the Philadelphia Phillies’ 40-man roster, now banned for a year, it begs the question on who will take his spot.
The obvious answer? None other than Scott Kingery.
Ahead of last night’s series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Phillies announced that David Dahl and Weston Wilson would be called up from Lehigh Valley to take the places of Brandon Marsh and Kody Clemens, both of whom are now on the 10-Day Injured List.
David Dahl made sense. The 30-year old was in the midst of a dominant season in Triple A Lehigh Valley, batting .340 with a 1.076 OPS, with 12 home runs and 26 RBI.
Last night, he was great after he got the start in left field. Dahl went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored in the Phillies’ 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
As for Weston Wilson? Nope.
Wilson, who I’m sure everyone is much more familiar with, will also join the Phillies in the midst of a miserable season in Triple A Lehigh Valley where he’s batting .211 with a .684 OPS.
It’s easy to make the case for David Dahl given his numbers in Lehigh Valley this season. Weston Wilson, however, is going to be a strong “no” from me – even more so when you have Scott Kingery who’s playing much better than him with the IronPigs this season.
Just last week, I wrote an article saying the Phillies need to bring up Scott Kingery this season. The fact that they are blatantly ignoring him in favor of Weston Wilson is a disservice to this baseball team.
The Last Dance: It’s time to give Scott Kingery the storybook ending he deserves >>
Scott Kingery has been on an absolute tear this season in Triple A Leigh Valley. While flashes of Jetpax SZN have become a common occurrence over the past few seasons, the Phillies have basically refused to call him up.
Just three days ago, Kingery crushed his 11th homer of the season and now is up to 27 RBI with seven bags swiped over 45 games played.
Scotty Jetpax is batting .244 with a .802 OPS. He has 11 home runs and 27 RBI with seven stolen bases on the year!
Weston Wilson is TRASH and to be VERY CLEAR, along with him, Rodolfo Castro, Darick Hall and Jose Rodriguez are not doing anything at the major league level for the Phillies this season – and honestly, they won’t do anything in the future either.
STOP THE MADNESS. GIVE SCOTT KINGERY HIS FLOWERS.
Add Scott Kingery to the roster and give him one last dance with the Philadelphia Phillies. Maybe it will end in a complete disaster, but he’s earned the opportunity and shouldn’t be kept in Lehigh Valley jail because the past front office decided to give him a big contract before he even played in a Major League Baseball game.
