Cameron Payne Arrest Mugshot

Cameron Payne arrested in Scottsdale after giving a ‘false report’ to officers – saying his name was Terry Johnson

Former Philadelphia 76ers guard and current free agent Cameron Payne was arrested in Arizona on Friday, as confirmed by a spokesperson from the Scottsdale Police Department.

Police in Scottsdale responded to a disturbance at 68th Street and Chaparral Road just before 3AM. When officers arrived, they spoke with two individuals, one of whom was later identified as Cameron Payne.

Payne was then arrested for providing a “false report to law enforcement” after not revealing his real name to the officers at the scene.

Cameron Payne reportedly told the officers his name was Terry Johnson.

I really do appreciate the effort here. Why Cam Payne thought that he could just give an officer a fake name and not get in trouble for it is so crazy that it just might have worked. His response after it did not work was even better.

“If you want to arrest me for giving you a fake name, congratulations.”

Absolutely hilarious. Shoutout Cam Payne.

Here’s a news release from a local publication in Arizona:

Former Phoenix Suns player Cameron Payne was arrested early Friday morning following an incident in Scottsdale.

Scottsdale police responded to reports of a disturbance in the area of 68th Street and Chaparral Road around 2:45 a.m. When they arrived, officers began speaking with two people, one of whom was later identified as Payne.

While details about the reported disturbance have not been released, Scottsdale police say Payne was later arrested on two charges, including refusing to provide a truthful name and giving a false report to law enforcement.

Payne was booked into the Scottsdale City Jail and later released on his own.

Listen, you can definitely get away with refusing to provide ID without getting trouble from the police. A “false report” could very well be pissed off cops that are mad because Payne elected to not give them his proper ID.

Cops hate when they aren’t in the right, ya know?

I’m not saying Cam Payne was completely in the right here either and I’m sure an incident at 3AM provided very few “clear minds” and “good judgement” from the people at the scene.

But to drop Terry Johnson and then mock police for arresting you over a fake name because they knew you were Cam Payne is incredible.

Bring Terry Johnson, the NBA basketball player formally known as Cam Payne back to the Philadelphia 76ers next season.

Johnson-Payne was electric in his brief minutes off the bench for the Sixers in the playoffs and I’m all for bringing him back as a much needed spark off the bench.
