Trea Turner homers twice, Phillies destroy Max Fried in 8-6 win over the Atlanta Braves
Who let Trea Turner catch fire? The Philadelphia Phillies extended their National League East lead to 10 games last night in Atlanta, beating the Braves by a final score of 8-6.
Even with Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and JT Realmuto all on the injured list, the Phillies managed to guide Aaron Nola to his 100th career victory. Turner homered twice off Braves’ “ace” Max Fried and the lineup as a whole notched 15 hits in the win.

Trea Turner struck again in the six, absolutely destroying a hanging slider from Max Fried to left field for another two-run home run, his longest of his career – traveling a projected 459 feet, according to Statcast.

Heat Check: Trea Turner has 4 home runs and 10 RBI over in his last seven games. He’s batting .341 on the season with an .896 OPS.
There’s a lot of casuals questioning the fact that he was named the starting shortstop for the NL team in the All-Star game given the amount of games he missed earlier in the season but make no mistake, Trea Turner is the best shortstop in the National League and deserved the honors.Â
Max Fried allowed five runs and a season-high 11 hits in six innings of work. His Braves didn’t go down without a fight. Ozzie Albies, who notched three hits on the night, hit a solo home run off Aaron Nola in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the Phillies lead to 6-3.
Johan Rojas hit an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning and reached second on a throwing error from Braves’ pitcher Jesse Chavez. Rojas then stole third base and scored after Austin Riley missed the catch on the play to extend the Phillies lead to 8-3.
After Orion Kerkering through a perfect seventh inning with two strikeouts, Marcell Ozuna blasted a three-run home run off Jose Alvarado to pull the Braves within two runs, but Jeff Hoffman slammed the door shut in the ninth inning with a hitless frame to earn his eighth save of the season and a Phillies 8-6 victory.
The win gave the Phillies a 10-game lead over the Braves in the National League East standings. They are now an MLB-best 58-30 on the season and 6-4 over their last 10 games.
Tonight, the Braves will send rookie pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach (1-4, 5.68 ERA) to the mound to face Ranger Suárez (10-2, 2.27).
