Kelly Oubre Jr. could face legal action for car accident from April 2024

Just as 76ers wing Kelly Oubre Jr. was about to put his focusing on the upcoming 2024-2025 NBA season, his mistakes from this past year came back to haunt him. According to TMZ, Oubre could face legal action for his involvement in a car accident where his Lamborghini Urus collided with another car:

“The man who claims he was hit by Kelly Oubre in a late-night car wreck earlier this year wants the 76ers star to pay up for the damage he says the hooper caused … and if the NBAer doesn’t open his wallet soon, the guy tells TMZ Sports he’s going to sue.” (ht: Sixers_Galaxy / X)

The reported car that Kelly Oubre Jr’s collided with belonged to a 21-year-old college student, who claimed that the 76ers forward was driving at a high speed, which caused multiple injuries and the student’s car to be totaled TMZ further noted.

The backstory of Kelly Oubre Jr’s car accident

The story of Kelly Oubre Jr.’s collision was first broken by TMZ back on April 25th, 2024. Oubre reportedly got into the accident at 1:45 am on April 23rd following the 76ers’ heartbreaking game two loss to the New York Knicks where Donte DiVincenzo hit a dagger three-pointer. The police involved revealed that Oubre ran a red light and plowed into a Hyunda Elantra.

Following the incident, Kelly Oubre Jr. joked with the media that he should get a personal driver: “I’m okay. The people that were involved were okay, but I need to probably get a driver or something and just stay off the road and behind the wheel, but everything is good. Obscurely, Kelly Oubre Jr. was a victim of another vehicle incident where the aggressor committed a hit-and-run in November of 2023. The 76ers wing was reportedly crossing the street when a silver car traveling at a high rate of speed struck him in the chest and fled from the scene via 6ABC.

ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reported that Kelly Oubre Jr. suffered a fractured rib as a result of the hit-and-run. That injury caused Oubre to miss 10 consecutive games after catching fire early on in the season.

Kelly Oubre Jr. recently signed a two-year/$16.3 million contract with the 76ers and is expected to be Philadelphia’s starting shooting guard as the roster stands. The hope is that Oubre can settle this incident, learn from his mistake, and all parties involved can promptly move on.
