Kevin Durant tells Kay Adams Joel Embiid is not 7-feet tall, as decade-long debate about his height returns after Team USA photoshoot
Kevin Durant joined “Up & Adams” with host, Kay Adams to set the record straight on his height – which has been sparking controversy across social media for the better part of a decade.
Backstory: In 2016, Kevin Durant joked about the conversation surrounding his height, saying “Since I love you guys so much, I was recorded at 6’10” and three-quarters with no shoes, so with my shoes on I’m 7-feet,” when speaking to the media during his time with the Golden State Warriors.
The official listing on the NBA website however, still said that Durant was actually 6’9″. KD wanted the world and other NBA players specifically to believe the “Big Lie” that he was smaller than he actually was because av”6’9 Small Forward is the sweat spot”.

The league caught on and Kevin Durant’s official listing was updated from 6’9″ to 6’11”

Side Note: I’m more pissed that KD wants people to believe he weighs 240 pounds. For context, Joel Embiid, weighs 280 pounds.
Anyways, with Team USA beginning preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris at the end of the month, Durant joined Kay Adams to “set the record straight” on his height. In the interview, he was referencing a group photo of Team USA that featured him standing next to Joel Embiid in the photo, both players to be right around the same height.

Is Joel Embiid not a true 7-footer or is Kevin Durant actually even taller than he says?
That of course, brought up the decade-plus long debate of how tall Durant truly is and he is now back to telling everyone that he’s 6’9″ and not 6’11” as currently listed on the official NBA website.
Kevin Durant to NBA fans questioning his height:
“I guess those guys must be shorter than what their numbers say,” Durant said on Thursday. “I’m 6’9’’ so it looks like Bam Adebayo’s probably 6’8’’ instead of 6’10’’, and AD is probably 6’9’’. So they’re probably adding a little more on their height while I’m keeping mine the same.”
Durant also added that our guy, Joel Embiid is NOT 7-feet
Obviously KD was joking around here. He’s definitely taller than what he tells everyone. No question about it. On the Olympic front, Durant is currently battling a calf injury that sidelined him for Wednesday’s 86-72 exhibition win over Canada. His status remains “day-to-day” for Team USA’s next Olympic tune-up against Australia on July 15.
Team USA will continue the Showcase Series ahead of the Olympics on Monday, July 15th against Australia. From there, they’ll play Serbia on July 17, South Sudan on July 20, and Germany on July 22nd ahead of the Olympic Games.
