WATCH: Brent Rooker’s insane series against the Philadelphia Phillies served as one heck of a job interview ahead of the July 30th MLB Trade Deadline
Oakland Athletic’s outfielder Brent Rooker gave the Philadelphia Phillies one heck of an interview over the weekend at Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies will enter the All-Star break 62-34 after losing to the Oakland Athletics on Sunday by a hilariously bad final score of 18-3. They won a franchise-record 62 games before the break. The starting rotation holds an MLB-best 3.22 ERA and 11.3 WAR (FanGraphs).
The bullpen finished third with a 3.32 ERA, which is inflated now since the Athletics teed off on the shorthanded bullpen (Garrett Stubbs allowed 5 runs in the 9th lol) to drop it to 13th (3.79 ERA).
The offense ranks fourth in runs (477), third in batting average (.259), on-base percentage (.331) and OPS (.755); and sixth in home runs (118) and slugging percentage (.424). The defense is eighth with 11 Outs Above Average. (MLB)
Still, it’s no secret that Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies’ front office will be targeting outfield help ahead of the July 30 trade deadline.
Phillies Outfield Stats at the All-Star Break:
- Brandon Marsh:Â .263 BA | .780 OPS | 9 HR | 35 RBI
- Johan Rojas:Â .231 BA | .565 OPS | 3 HR | 23 RBI
- Nick Castellanos:Â .233 | .679 OPS | 13 HR | 47 RBI
- Cristian Pache:Â .198 BA | .562 OPS | 9 RBI
- Kyle Schwarber (DH):Â .249 | .831 OPS | 19 HR | 54 RBI
Needless to say, offensive help outside of the infield would be a much needed upgrade for the Philadelphia Phillies over the final stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs.
While the Phillies have been rumored to be in the mix for several of the top names available, other reports suggest they could look to grab a couple role players and bullpen depth instead.
One of those “role players” would be Oakland Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker, who just had one hell of a series against the Phillies over the weekend.
In July, Rooker is hitting .488 with 20 hits, six home runs, 15 RBI, and 15 runs scored over 12 games. On the season, he’s batting .291 with 88 hits, 21 home runs, 62 RBIs and 44 runs scored over 83 games this season with the Oakland Athletics.
In 12 at-bats over the weekend at Citizens Bank Park, Brent Rooker notched seven hits, including a double, three home runs, seven RBI, and three runs scored.
None of the home runs traveled less than 416 feet.
Following the 2024 season, Brent Rooker will have three years left of control. He could play left field (not great) or push Kyle Schwarber back to left field (also not great). His power however, is hard to ignore and his final “interview” before the All-Star break against the Phillies was enough to convince any fan that he’s “our guy” ahead of the deadline.
