WATCH: Trea Turner makes the ‘greatest mic’d up play in history’ during the 2024 MLB All-Star Game
Before Trea Turner notched a hit during last night’s All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas, he made an incredible web gem in the second.
2024 MLB All-Star Game: American League 5, National League 3.
The AL had a runner at first base as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stepped up to the plate. Turner, along with Alec Bohm and Bryce Harper were mic’d up on the broadcast with FOX broadcasters Joe Davis and John Smoltz.
He appeared to say “at all costs” and then made an unreal play, with a full-extension dive to the dirt to catch Vladdy’s hit that all things considered, should have found it’s way to centerfield.
From the dirt, Turner flipped the baseball to second baseman Ketel Marte for the force out.
Trea Turner Are You Kidding?!
I mean that has to be the best defensive play Trea Turner has made in his career right? We all know that Turner isn’t exactly a Gold Glove shortstop and that’s being nice about it so I don’t think it’s wild to say that play could very well be the best defensive one of his career.
At the very least, the Fox Sports Broadcast called it the “greatest play from a mic’d up player ever” so that’s good enough for me to hang the banners.
Up Next for the Phillies
The Phillies will enjoy a few days off before opening up the second half of the season in Pittsburgh this weekend. Game one will be held on Friday, July 19 at 6:40PM. Aaron Nola (11-4, 3.38 ERA) will take the mound. The Pirates have yet to announce a starting pitcher.
