WATCH: Tyrese Haliburton jokingly tells Joel Embiid to give his American passport back during Friday’s Olympic Games Opening Ceremony
Tyrese Haliburton and Joel Embiid were cracking jokes on the Team USA boat during Friday’s Opening Ceremony from the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.
Embiid was seen holding an American flag in his hand and was told by his teammate Tyrese Haliburton that he needed to give back his USA passport. Embiid smiled in response, waved his flag, and proudly said “I’m American, man.”

Haliburton jokingly telling Joel Embiid to give his passport back was likely in response to Team USA’s arrival to Paris, France early last week.
Embiid was greeted by bunch of French basketball fans who demanded that he gives back his French passport while also shouting that he should have played for France.

Love to see it. Embiid has nothing to apologize for. He’s an American citizen and has every right to be playing for Team USA in the Olympic Games. I can appreciate any type of response from Embiid in regards to France – who has done nothing but trash him ever since he made his decision to play elsewhere.
Embiid was eligible to play internationally for France. The Cameroonian-born superstar was granted French citizenship in 2022 but he decided against competing for them in the Paris Olympics in favor of Team USA.
From there, France cried and continued to cry like babies.
If you remember, Embiid shut down a French supporter during the 76ers playoff series against the New York Knicks – which he had every right to do because again, the French have been acting like babies ever since Embiid announced he would be joining TEAM USA.

These French RATS attempted a poorly orchestrated coup d’état on Joel Embiid by leaking a letter he wrote to France when he was getting his dual-citizenship from Cameroon.
France then rolled out this dork to criticize Embiid:

And for those other RATS on social media claiming that Team France is going to be fine without Embiid – let me remind you what happened when Embiid faced WEMBY during the NBA regular season. He hung a 70 Burger right on his face. This dude isn’t saving your sorry ass country. Embiid made it VERY clear that’s not a possibility already.
Don’t even get me started on Rudy Gobert.
We all know he’s soft as hell and Embiid would eat him alive on the World Stage.
Hate all you want. The French can line up and cry about Embiid for the rest of their lives for all I care. The funny about all of this is that it only took the big fella a few games to adjust and now he’s been among their three best players alongside Lebron James and Stephen Curry.
