Kyle Schwarber 3 HR Dodgers

BOMBS AWAY: Kyle Schwarber crushes 3 home runs, Phillies cruise past Dodgers 9-4 for their first series win since July 9-11

When the Phillies needed him most, Kyle Schwarber unleashed on the Los Angeles Dodgers, notching a perfect 4-for-4 (one walk) to go along with three bombs and SEVEN RBIs in Wednesday night’s 9-4 victory.

The win cemented the first series victory since the Phillies swept the Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park back on July 9-11.

The Phillies extended their lead in the NL East to 7.5 games over the Atlanta Braves. In the National League, they now lead the Dodgers by 2.5 games and own the tiebreaker, which could come in handy at the end of the regular season in the quest for home field advantage through the NLCS.

The Phillies also are back in the top spot for the best record in all of Major League Baseball at 68-46 on the season.

Schwarber wasted no time unleashing on the Dodgers last night. He hit is 42nd career leadoff home run in the first inning to give the Phillies an early 1-0 advantage.

Kyle Schwarber Home Run No. 1

Schwarber continued his onslaught with a two-run double in the fifth before unleashing a three-run blast in the sixth inning to extend a 5-4 lead to 8-4.

Kyle Schwarber Home Run No. 2

In the ninth inning, Schwarber completed a career-best night with a solo shot, cementing what turned out to be a 9-4 win for The Fightins.

Kyle Schwarber Home Run No. 3

The Phillies have now won 3 out of their last 4 games. Like I said yesterday after they won 2 of 3, we can safely put a miserable 3-14 stretch in the rearview window. Tonight, the west coast trip continues as the Phillies open up a four-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
