Five standout players from the Eagles preseason win vs. Baltimore
Thanks to a 49-yard field goal from Jake Elliott as time expired, the Eagles escaped Baltimore with a 16-13 victory to kick off the preseason.
Several players, including some rookies, impressed in their first snaps of the year. Here are five names that stood out.
CB Quinyon Mitchell
As if there was a doubt, first-round CB Quinyon Mitchell is a difference-maker. Mitchell played both outside (opposite Isaiah Rodgers) and in the slot and nearly picked off a pass intended for Malik Cunningham in the first quarter.
Mitchell wasn’t satisfied with his performance despite breaking up the pass on a key 3rd down.
“I really want that back,” Mitchell said of the dropped INT. “I was kind of mad at myself.”
Although he hardly played nickel in college, Mitchell has been getting starting reps in the slot throughout training camp. With Kelee Ringo and Isaiah Rodgers getting the majority of the outside work, nickel could be the path to playing time for Mitchell.
If last night was any indication, Mitchell will have plenty of turnover opportunities in the future.

LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Trotter Jr. is quickly displaying the football IQ and instincts he inherited from his father.
The former Clemson standout was constantly around the ball on defense and special teams, recording six tackles (tied for team lead), a sack, and a QB hit in 40 total snaps. He was the best inside linebacker by a wide margin and could easily carve out a starting role if he continues to impress.

RB Will Shipley
All the attention has been on Saquon Barkley this summer, and rightfully so, but don’t count out Will Shipley being involved in the Eagles running back rotation.
Shipley ran hard between the tackles and showed off his pass-catching ability on a TD reception from Kenny Pickett in the first quarter. His most impressive play came on pass protection, where he stopped a blitzer from reaching Pickett in the pocket.
Keeping Jalen Hurts upright is the top priority, and if you can help contribute in that area as a rookie, you’ll find your way onto the field.

WR/PR Britain Covey
Heading into the summer, there was speculation on whether Britain Covey would hold on to the returner job, given that other newcomers possessed similar abilities.
Covey likely solidified his role with a 26-yard punt return in the second quarter, combined with rookie Ainias Smith fumbling a punt out of bounds. He’s also looked good as a receiver in camp and continued that trend in yesterday’s game, catching four passes for 25 yards.
Britain Covey shouldn’t have ever been considered to not make the roster, he is the leagues best punt returner and I will stand by that till I die pic.twitter.com/pGj817DGyK

CB Kelee Ringo
Kelee Ringo had himself a game. He was targeted five times, allowed just one catch, and broke up a couple of passes — including one to prevent a touchdown in the endzone.
This performance builds upon Ringo’s already strong summer. If you had asked me who the leading contender for CB2 was ahead of last night, I would’ve said Isaiah Rodgers. Ringo’s play should close that gap.
