Trea Turner delivers walk-off hit, Phillies beat the Nationals 3-2
Phillies Topper Rob Thomson made the decision to bench Trea Turner in Wednesday night’s 9-5 victory over the Miami Marlins.
Turner returned to the lineup on Thursday against the Nationals and went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Heading into Thursday night’s game, Turner said he watched highlights from the 2020-2021 seasons to get his head right and something must have clicked.
Last night, Turner picked up right where he left off, posting a 4-for-5 night with a walk-off single in the ninth inning to deliver a 3-2 win for the Phillies – their third straight victory.
The Phillies, even against the lowly Nats have given Phillies fans a return to normalcy over the past few nights in South Philadelphia, something that will ideally carry over when they travel to Atlanta on August 20th.
Before the All-Star break, Trea Turner hit .345 with 11 homers and 32 RBI. Post break, he’s now hitting .219 with two homers and 10 RBI.
Cristopher Sanchez (8-8, 3.63 ERA) will take the bump at 6:05 pm at The Bank against the Nats’ MacKenzie Gore (7-10, 4.50 ERA) is looking to lead the Phillies to their fourth straight win.
