Phillies win 4th straight guided by a Cristopher Sanchez complete game masterclass
The Phillies continued to beat up on the Washington Nationals last night at The Bank, winning 5-1 to extend their winning streak to four games.
Cristopher Sanchez tossed a complete game, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out four.
Alex Call homered off of Sanchez in the top of the fourth to give the Nationals a 1-0 lead in the game, but the Phillies quickly responded, with Nick Castellanos roping an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning.
Small Ball Extends Phillies Lead
Alec Bohm, rocking a giraffe bat, gave the Phillies a 2-1 lead with an RBI single in the sixth and JT Realmuto added another to extend the Phillies lead to 3-1.
Edmundo Sosa, seeing an uptick in playing time at second base over Bryson Stott, roped a single of his own to make it 4-1.
Johan Rojas capped the inning off with yet another RBI single to send the game into the seventh with the Phillies leading 5-1.
Every player in the lineup notched a hit last night for the Phillies except Bryce Harper, who continues to swing himself out of a minor slump in August.
The Phillies will send Taijuan Walker to the mound today looking to win their fifth straight while completing a 4-game sweep of the Washington Nationals.
Phillies Standings Update
The Phillies once again have an eight-game lead over the Atlanta Braves in the NL East standings. They also have the best record in the National League, leading the Dodgers by 1.5 games while holding a 0.5-game lead over the New York Yankees for the best record in all of Major League Baseball.
