WATCH: Shohei Ohtani enters 40-40 club with a walk-off grand slam, Rays’ outfielder Jose Siri foolishly gives it to a fan
Shohei Ohtani crushed a walk-off grand slam to hand the Los Angeles Dodgers a 7-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at in California on Saturday night.
The blast marked Ohtani’s 40th homer of the season. Earlier in the game, Ohtani stole his 40th base of the year, which entered him into the illustrious 40-40 club.
Ohtani is just the sixth player ever to go 40-40 in a season. The other players to accomplish the feat are obviously baseball’s best players, past and present.
Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Jose Canseco, Alfonso Soriano and Ronald Acuña Jr are all in the 40-40 club, now joined by Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani stole second in the fourth inning after reaching first base on an infield single. With the Dodgers down 3-0, Enrique Hernandez slugged a tying 3-run home run in the fifth. The game remained tied until the 9th inning, when Ohtani came up to the plate with two outs and the bases juiced.
Of course, Shohei Ohtani did the impossible and crushed a walk-off grand slam, winning the game for the Dodgers while entering the illustrious 40-40 club.

Rays’ outfielder Jose Siri attempted to catch the baseball, but it bounced off fans in the front row and back onto the field. He then threw the ball back into the stands before leaving the field.
Obviously, Ohtani and the Dodgers would have liked to have that baseball given the significance.
Siri told reporters after the game that he “had no idea” the ball represented a huge milestone for Ohtani.
“We just got walked off. I threw it to a fan,” Siri said.
Hard to blame Siri here. I highly doubt he’s tracking Ohtani’s career milestones.
