LeSean Mccoy to be inducted into Eagles Hall of Fame

The Eagles’ all-time leading rusher will be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in November.

LeSean McCoy will be honored at halftime of the Eagles’ Week 9 matchup against Jacksonville as one of the greatest players to ever play for the organization.

“LeSean was an incredibly gifted player who always approached the game with great joy and enthusiasm,” said Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie in a press release.

“His elusiveness as a dual-threat back, coupled with his uncanny ability to make breathtaking plays, captivated everyone who had the privilege of watching him compete.

His energy was contagious, but more importantly, it was his competitive spirit and commitment to being a great teammate that truly shaped his legacy as one of our league’s all-time greats.”

LeSean McCoy spent six seasons in Philadelphia and sits atop the all-time rushing list with 6,792 rushing yards. He’s a member of the 2010s HOF All-Decade team, leading the league in rushing between 2010 and 2019 with 10,434 yards.

The Eagles drafted McCoy in 2009 out of Pitt to be Brian Westbrook’s successor. No player has worn McCoy’s jersey number (25) since he was traded in 2015.

When McCoy retired in 2021, he stated his only regret was not spending the entirety of his career in Philadelphia.

The only regret I’ve ever had was not spending my entire career as an Eagle. I look at guys like Jason Kelce and Larry Fitzgerald, lifelong friends of mine, who spent their whole career with one team.

I grew up in Harrisburg, played my college football at Pittsburgh, and was drafted by the Eagles. I never thought it would have been like that, but it would have been so cool to finish my career only having played in this one state.”

McCoy was the NFL rushing champion in 2013, accumulating 1,607 yards on the ground and averaging over 100 yards/game. He had four 1,000-yard seasons with the Eagles, including three Pro Bowls and two First-Team All-Pro selections.

McCoy also holds the franchise record for most rushing yards in a game — 217 against the Detroit Lions in the ‘Snow Bowl’ in 2013.

Shady may only have been here for six seasons, but that wasn’t his choice, and his impact on the organization is undeniable. Now, LeSean Mccoy’s name will forever be etched in team history.
