WATCH: Danny Jansen becomes the first player in MLB History to play for two different teams in the same game

Danny Jansen made MLB history on Monday, becoming the first player ever to suit up for both teams in the same game.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora had told reporters that Jansen would be playing for Boston in the continuation of a suspended game against the Toronto Blue Jays dating back to June 26, 2024 – before the August 30th MLB Trade Deadline.

In June, Danny Jansen was still a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. He was dealt at the MLB Trade Deadline to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor-leaguers Cutter Coffey, Eddinson Paulino, and Gilberto Batista.

Since the game was initially postponed while Jansen, again, a member of the Blue Jays, was at the plate, when it was resumed on Monday, he watched his own pinch-hitter and Blue Jays’ outfielder Daulton Varsho, finish his previous at-bat with former teammate Davis Schneider on first base. Jansen would have been attempting to advance or drive-in Schneider.

Fortunately, that was about as confusing as things got.

After stealing second, Davis Schneider didn’t end up scoring, so no harm done from Jansen’s new perspective behind the plate.
