Nick Castellanos Home Run

Nick Castellanos crushes 3-run homer to lift Phillies past Astros 5-0, delivers elite signature quotes following the game

As we all know, Nick Castellanos is a free-swing type of guy.

There’s no plan at the plate. He uses in natural, god given talent to hit baseballs and at times, he’s shadow banned from the heavens and goes through cold streaks that are better compared to the depths of hell.

When that happens, I like to call them “swing through it” slumps until he returns to form as one of the best hitters in all of Major League Baseball.

Let’s start at the beginning of the 2024 regular season...

Casty hit .194 with four home runs and 17 RBIs through May 18. He ranked 140th out of 144 players in baseball (minimum 150 plate appearances) with a .556 OPS.

Nick Castellanos Month by Month:

  • April (28 Games): .183 BA, 19 H, 2 HR, 7 RBI
  • May (27 Games): .229 BA, 24 H, 5 HR, 15 RBI
  • June (26 Games): .276 BA, 29 H, 4 HR, 18 RBI
  • July (24 Games): .275, 25 H, 4 HR, 15 RBI
  • August (24 Games): .292, 26 H, 3 HR, 14 RBI

He’s now batting .280 with 14 home runs, 54 RBIs and an .813 OPS over 85 games from May 19 through Tuesday. Castellanos’ OPS in that span ranks 41st out of 133 qualified hitters in baseball. [MLB]

Since June 1st, which in my opinion is the unofficial start of the Major League Baseball regular season, Nick Castellanos is batting .281 with 80 hits, 11 home runs, and 47 RBIs.

I know Castellanos is an easy-target for the haters given his STI (swing through it) spells but outside of Alec Bohm, there’s an argument to be made that he’s been the Phillies most consistent hitter this season.

Plus, quotes like this are THAT much better when he’s hitting (lol)

Nick Castellanos: “I don’t really have an approach, I look for the baseball and hit it as hard as I can. Having protection behind me usually forces the pitcher to throw to me more.”

Nick Castellanos: “Sometimes you have to pay your taxes”

Last night at Citizens Bank Park, the suddenly, dare I say…hot Philadelphia Phillies beat the Astros 5-0, mainly thanks to Nick Castellanos.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Castellanos crushed an 0-1 curveball to left field. It was a three-run home run that gave Aaron Nola everything he needed, as the Phillies’ second ace cruised through seven scoreless innings of four-hit baseball, walking just one and striking out six.

Taijuan Walker on the mound this afternoon. God help us.

Great News: Taijuan Walker will not start Thursday against the Atlanta Braves; Bad News: He will start Wednesday against the Houston Astros
