Ranger Suarez, Phillies cruise past Marlins 5-2 en route to fifth-straight win

The Philadelphia Phillies are finally clicking at the right time. Last night, they opened a series up in Miami against the Marlins, with Ranger Suarez throwing five scoreless innings while Bryson Stott and Kody Clemens did the majority of the damage from the plate.

Note: Ranger Suarez is on a pitch count and there was really no reason to keep him in the game last night past the fifth inning. They were leading 5-0 and Suarez wrapped the fifth with 82 pitches. According to the Phillies, they want Suarez to get 3-4 more starts before the regular season ends. Having Ranger healthy in the postseason is a priority.

Bryson Stott went 2-for-4 form the plate with 2 RBI and a run scored. Kody Clemens went 1-for-3 from the plate with 2 RBI and a run scored as the Phillies beat the Fish 5-2.

Bryson Stott Solo Home Run

Note: Bryson Stott is finally looking more like the player we all watched last season. Over his last 15 games (48 at-bats) Stott has 15 hits, two home runs, and 5 RBI to the tune of a .313 batting average. Stott “getting right” in the final month of the season is exactly what the Phillies’ lineup needs heading into October.

Kody Clemens 2 RBI Double

Clemens has been solid. He’s hitting .247 with a .820 OPS in 73 at-bats in the majors this season to go along with 4 home runs and 15 RBI. While he’s not an everyday starter, he’s proven to be reliable in spot-start situations, which should land him on the Phillies’ playoff roster.

The Phillies are now back at the .600 win percentage, sitting at 84-56 on the season. They are a dominant 47-25 at home while posting a winning record on the road at 37-31 on the season.

Winners of five-straight, The Fightins have also won in 10 out of their last 12 games and with that, have jumped out to an eight game lead over the Atlanta Braves, who are now tied for second with the New York Mets, in the National League East standings.

The Phillies are also tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in the National League and in all of Major League Baseball.

That’s important because if they beat out the Dodgers at the end of the regular season, they can ensure home field advantage until the NLCS in October.

Zack Wheeler on the bump tonight in Miami. Sixth-straight win incoming.
