Rendering of potential Philadelphia 76ers arena in Camden released shortly after Mayor Cherelle Parker’s town hall addressing concerns about moving location to Market East
Shortly after Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker’s town hall addressing concerns about the proposed 76 Place at Market East, new renderings of a potential alternate site for the Sixers’ arena have emerged from across the river in the always-lovely Camden, New Jersey.
New Jersey industry plant Tom Bergeron of ROI New Jersey dropped the first look at this proposed arena on the other side of the Delaware River, and the timing couldn’t be more obvious.
Philadelphia 76ers rendering of 76 Place in Camden, New Jersey
Smart move. Dropping the image right after Parker’s town hall, and making damn sure that 76 Place had prominent placement of the Ben Franklin Bridge in the render seems like a reminder to Philly residents that Camden is just a stone’s throw away.
You’d have to believe at this point, the Philadelphia 76ers are starting to feel the pressure. They are adamant on getting 76 Place built and ready for the 2031 season but the clock continues to click and there’s still no location.
I’m on the side of letting the Philadelphia 76ers move to Camden, New Jersey out of any other location. Screw it, right? This organization is ran like a business with zero ties or obligations to the fanbase and city of Philadelphia so if they want to leave, let’s get them on the earliest ferry across the Delaware River.
The 76ers ownership group has made it clear that they don’t plan to stick around the Sports Complex in South Philly. They are taking New Jersey’s offer seriously so maybe stop wasting everyone’s time and just move. I promise you, Sixers fans will get over it.
Will the Sixers really leave Philadelphia? It’s tough to say. Their practice facility is already in Camden, so maybe this isn’t as wild as it seems. As of now, this story is far from over, and there’s no telling where the Sixers will ultimately end up.
Good luck. I guess. Whatever.
