BAD BEAT: Cowboys’ kicker Brandon Aubrey misses 51-yard field goal, Giants cover on Thursday Night Football
Brandon Aubrey’s missed field goal in the Dallas Cowboys’ 20-15 win over the New York Giants on Thursday night had NFL fans and gamblers dishing out wild conspiracy theories, especially those with a stake in the betting line.
With 30 seconds left, the Cowboys were up by five when Aubrey lined up for a 51-yard field goal that would’ve extended the lead to 23-15, covering the 5.5-point spread. But in a surprising twist, Aubrey—who’s been rock-solid—missed wide right, letting Giants bettors at +5.5 cash in.
Brandon Aubrey Misses Wide Right, Giants Cover +5.5
This was Aubrey’s first miss from beyond 50 yards in 17 attempts, sparking plenty of conspiracy talk among frustrated gamblers. Twitter had a field day with the miss and honestly, they were making some pretty solid points as to why the miss from Aubrey was rare and absolutely devastating with 80% of the bets on the game were for the Cowboys -5.5 points.
Brandon Aubrey has been stellar since joining the Cowboys, going 36/38 as a rookie and starting this season 12/12 before the miss. With his history of accuracy, the timing felt a bit too convenient for some, especially with so much money riding on the Cowboys covering the spread.
I wholeheartedly hope that Cowboys and Giants fans alike suffered greatly from this.
Of course, there’s no real evidence of foul play—but you never really know when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones specifically. Those rats down in Texas are capable of anything but at the end of the night, this appears to be just another bad beat for gamblers.
