Desnoyers, Avon among Flyers players sent down to Phantoms

The Philadelphia Flyers roster trimming ahead of the 2024-25 NHL season continued Friday with five players officially being sent down to the AHL.

Forwards JR Avon, Elliot Desnoyers, Massimo Rizzo, Brendan Furry, and Jacob Gaucher were all assigned to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms ahead of the upcoming AHL season. The Flyers roster now stands at 37 players as their preseason schedule continues Saturday.

Flyers cut down training camp roster

Desnoyers, a fifth round selection by the Flyers in 2020, totaled 45 points in 68 combined games for the Phantoms in 2022-23. He scored six goals and finished with 22 points in 67 games last season.

Rizzo, 23, spent the last three seasons at the University of Denver in the NCAA. Rizzo tallied 126 points in 107 games for the Pioneers, finishing with 44 in 2023.

Avon, 21, totaled nine goals and nine assists for 18 points in 68 combined games for the Phantoms last season.

The 26-year-old Furry scored six goals and finished with 20 points last season in 63 games for the Phantoms.

Gaucher will take part in his second AHL season with Lehigh Valley after scoring nine goals in 65 games in 2023-24.

The Phantoms open their regular season schedule on October 12 against Hartford.
