Eagles falter in the Tampa heat as Week 4 loss to Buccaneers completely unravels

The Eagles’ Week 4 matchup against the Buccaneers didn’t offer much in the way of positives, and things went from bad to worse as the second half wore on, with the team visibly struggling to battle both the heat and Tampa Bay’s relentless attack.

Reed Blankenship was sidelined before halftime due to illness, while Jalen Carter and Cam Jurgens had to deal with cramping, leaving them both questionable to return.

With the real-feel temperature soaring close to 110 degrees, and humidity still lingering in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, this was always going to be a tough game environment.

While it’s easy to chalk it up as another factor in the Eagles’ poor showing, it’s hard to ignore that the weather only exacerbated an already miserable day on the field.

Landon Dickerson was forced into action at center with Jurgens out, and Tyler Steen slid in at left guard.

Carter did manage to return late in the game, but with the Eagles trailing 33-16 at that point, his presence on the field felt more like a formality than anything that would shift the tide.

Eagles Basically Roasted Themselves in Tampa Blowout

The Eagles lost to the Buccaneers 33-16 on Sunday because of their own mistakes, not the heat or humidity. Their defense struggled, Isaiah Rodgers made a big error on special teams, and the offense looked completely lost without AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Lane Johnson.

Despite the blistering conditions, with the temperature hovering at 94 degrees and the humidity making it feel like 108, the real issue was Philly’s performance in all three phases.

Once again, Jalen Hurts coughed up the ball with a costly turnover, and this short-handed offense never found its footing. The defense missed tackles all over the football field and special teams handed Tampa prime field position on an embarrassing botched play.

The Eagles didn’t lose because of the weather. They were roasted by their own sloppy play and mental lapses, leaving them with plenty to fix as they head into the bye week.
