Major League Baseball Uniforms 2025

Freedom: Major League Baseball announces massive changes to uniforms in 2025

The 2024 Major League Baseball season kicked off with more than just fresh storylines—it brought new uniforms. And let’s just say, the reviews were far from kind.

Nike and Fanatics were slammed from all sides, with complaints flooding in about the cheap materials, see-through pants, and amateur-looking numbers.

As expected, the new MLB uniforms, brought to you by Nike and Fanatics, were a horrible sight during Opening Weekend

Fast forward to now, with the postseason around the corner, and MLB has finally responded. On Monday, the league announced that it’s hitting the reset button on the uniforms, planning to bring back the old materials by 2025.

Players and fans alike have been vocal about how much they hated the 2024 redesign, and it seems the league took the message seriously.

The MLB press release promised “major changes” starting next season, with one of the biggest being a return to the jersey materials players were used to. That’s right, no more flimsy fabric or questionable design choices. The league is going back to what worked.

On top of that, teams will get back full customization of their pants, with larger lettering and embroidered patches also making a comeback.

Major League Baseball will change back uniforms in 2025

Major League Baseball admitted that road uniforms will only feature the 2023 material in Spring Training 2025, but they assured fans that by 2026, every uniform will be made from the old, more durable fabrics.

But that’s not the only shake-up coming.

Major League Baseball also announced a change that’s sure to get fans hyped: starting in 2025, All-Star players will once again wear their own team’s uniforms during the game. It’s a move that takes us back to the tradition that lasted from the 1930s through 2019.

While the custom All-Star jerseys introduced in 2021 had some supporters, most fans missed seeing their favorite stars repping their own team’s colors.

And for the Home Run Derby?

Players will be in their primary home uniforms for that too. Special event jerseys aren’t disappearing completely, though—All-Star Workout Day will still feature unique uniforms, as will the players not competing in the Derby that night.

As for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game itself, which will be held at Truist Park in Atlanta, New Era is already cooking up a fresh cap design. It’s a welcome return to the familiar for baseball fans who love tradition but still crave some flair during the league’s biggest events.

In the end, this feels like Major League Baseball listening to its fans—and players—and making the changes everyone wanted. It’s a sign that, while the league is always looking to evolve, they know when to take a step back and lean into what works. Let’s just hope they stick the landing in 2025.
