WATCH: Pete Alonso sets the tone for the New York Mets by tripping over his own bat in the first inning
Known dork Pete Alonso gave the Mets the first of a few moments to forget in Game 2 of the NL Wild Card series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Alonso set the tone for a classic New York Mets disaster-class with two runners on and one out in the top of the first inning. He hit a soft grounder to shortstop Willy Adames that set up an easy double play for the Brewers.
As he left the batter’s box, Alonso tripped over his own bat, falling face-first into the dirt on the first base line.

Side Note: Pete Alonso couldn’t beat out a double-play because he resembles a spoiled bag of milk and is slower than molasses. It had absolutely nothing to do with him foolishly tripping over his own bat.
The Brewers turned the double play to end the inning and Alonso set the tone for the New York Mets to allow Jackson Chourio hit a game-tying home run to centerfield in the eighth, only to have Garrett Mitchell hit a two run homer later in the inning to hand the Brewers a must-win 5-3 victory over the Mets to extend the NL Wild Card Series to Game 3 tonight.
