97.5’s Tyrone Johnson tells Phillies fans to ‘stop acting scared’ even though he has half of Philadelphia blocked on Twitter

97.5 The Fanatic has seen better days. Their self proclaimed ‘Best Show Ever’ speaks to that. More specifically the host of that show, Tyrone Johnson.

Johnson, along with most of the hosts on 97.5, have a knack for blocking people on Twitter who disagree with them. Even us, the truth tellers of Philadelphia sports discourse, are blocked by this guy.

During Wednesday’s show, Tyrone Johnson went on a rant about Phillies fans, telling us to ‘stop acting scared’ of postseason baseball. While we agree with the sentiment, it falls flat coming from Tyrone, who is literally afraid of backlash from Philadelphia sports fans.

We’re not the only ones who called him out on it either. One scroll through the replies and you’ll see several Philadelphia sports fans pointing out the hypocrisy in Tyrone Johnson’s little rant. He even used the 97.5 account as his personal burner to argue with these people. Serious loser energy.

97.5 has always played second fiddle to WIP, and it’s not particularly close. It’s because of stuff like this. I’m not a huge fan of WIP, but they’ve managed to build a huge community of long-time callers and listeners. For better or worse, 94WIP actually embraces the fanbase; they don’t run from it.

When you talk down to your audience, like Tyrone does, it wedges a gap between listener and host. Nobody wants to be talked down to, we want to have a discussion. Until he, and the rest of the hosts at 97.5, understand that, their ratings are going to continue to struggle.
